- A special mid-week half-day ‘Innovation Dialogue’ forum on 24 July as part of Public Sector Innovation Month, and then,
- In November, a full-Saturday program connecting 8 capital cities with video links and interactive idea sharing across Australia.

About the GovCamp Innovation Dialogues
The facilitated discussion sessions will be held partly in the ‘unconference’ mode of a GovCamp event, including:
- Leadership panel – featuring leadership guests taking a snapshot of local public innovation
- Conversation café segment – to stimulate interaction and explore the local public innovation ecosystem
- Mini-GovCamp discussion streams – exploring the spaces, people and conversations of value to local public innovation
- Local showcase – includes the best of GovHack 2015 + other events, tools and initiatives
- Closing roundup session and lunch
These half-day events will bring together a range of public sector leaders and practitioners, together with innovators from industry and civil society.
The purpose of the session is to stimulate discussion, debate and sharing of knowledge about public sector innovation, as well as highlighting cases from within and outside the sector for innovative delivery of public policy and services. Each city session will work towards two key outcomes:
- Mapping the local public innovation ecosystem
- Identifying key innovation soft skills of high value to public service professionals.

Kym was most recently Deputy Secretary, Higher Education and Skills Group at the former Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Previous roles at CSIRO include as Research Director for the Digital Economy Program, focused on digital services transformation, and driving innovation to enhance the growth of Australia’s emerging digital economy; and before that as Theme Leader for Health Services, focussed on digital innovation in our healthcare system.
Sarah’s career spans Australia’s innovation system, including high-tech startups, public and private research organisations, mining, and commercialisation consulting. This includes 13 years as an academic, researching optical broadband network engineering (think NBN), which culminated in co-founding Monitoring Division, NICTA’s first spin out company in Melbourne.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner el_id=””][vc_column_inner el_class=”” width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”5984″ style=”vc_box_rounded” border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”” img_link_target=”_self”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=”” width=”3/4″][vc_custom_heading text=”Ben Rimmer” font_container=”tag:p|text_align:left” google_fonts=”font_family:Montserrat%3Aregular%2C700|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal”][vc_column_text]Ben Rimmer is the recently appointed CEO at the City of Melbourne. Ben returned to his home town of Melbourne after three years as Associate Secretary in the Australian Government’s Department of Human Services, where he led the Service Delivery Transformation Group, responsible for improving service delivery performance and developing new and innovative approaches that kept pace with the changing expectations of Australian citizens.
Ben previously worked for the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and for the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet. In these roles he focused on health reform, Commonwealth – State relations, workforce participation, early childhood and mental health, among other issues. Has a science degree and studied law at the University of Melbourne. IBM gave him a sound knowledge of computer technology, management and marketing. In 1985 Russell launched one of the first multimedia software companies in Australia.
Russell has been a frequent advisor to state and federal governments since the early nineties and is a current board member on the Victorian Government Purchasing Board. In recognition of his contribution to the Australian ICT industry was elected an Honorary Member of the Australian Computer Society in 2010. Russell is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, an investor and is currently chairman of Readify, Folk, Alcidion and a non executive director on the boards of Bienalto and NICTA.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner el_id=””][vc_column_inner el_class=”” width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”5990″ style=”vc_box_rounded” border_color=”grey” img_link_large=”” img_link_target=”_self”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner el_class=”” width=”3/4″][vc_custom_heading text=”Cr. The Victorian Leadership Development Centre (VLDC) was established by the State Coordination and Management Council (SC&MC) to promote a sustainable, highly skilled, diverse and professional leadership capacity across the Victorian Public Service (VPS). The centre aims to build a strong cohort of capable executive leaders to address the challenges faced by the VPS. The VLDC is governed by a Board comprising all VPS Departmental Secretaries, the Chief Commissioner of Police and the Chair of the State Services Authority.
